Frequently Asked Questions

If you've got a question about The Flat Hat online, you'll probably find it here.

Why isn't the website updated daily?
The website's primary purpose is to present an online-friendly version of The Flat Hat's print edition. Since the paper comes out once a week, the website also gets updated once a week. If you notice the site isn't updated a particular week, it's because a print edition was not published (see The Flat Hat Production Schedule 05-06).

When is the online version made available?
Our goal is to have the website updated by early evening the day of publication. To accommodate for the staff's class schedules, we usually aim for 5pm that Friday. However, sometimes the site will get updated a little sooner or a little later depending on the circumstances. (Please note that to ensure the content printed is exactly what gets posted online, we can't work on the site until the paper is completely finished)

It's already Saturday. Why isn't the site updated?
While this hasn't happened in awhile, sometimes technical and personal circumstances may arise. The network might be down, preventing us from uploading the new issue in a timely manner. Sometimes the online staff might be short-handed one week due to family emergencies, medical conditions, or academic reasons (after all, we're students first). But most of the time, it's because we don't have a print issue scheduled for that week (see our Production Schedule 05-06 for details).

There's a mistake online.
It's okay, we can take care of it. E-mail your inquiry to the Online Editor and it'll be addressed accordingly.

I want to contribute/submit something.
Great! Visit our contact page and e-mail the section most relevant to your submission. Or, if you're not quite sure, you can e-mail our editor at flthat@wm.edu.

There's something I wrote/drew/submitted that I want taken down.
Sorry, any work submitted to The Flat Hat becomes property of The Flat Hat. We won't retract stuff we've published.
