JMU eliminates 10 varsity sports teams to comply with Title IX
The James Madison University Board of Visitors voted Friday to eliminate 10 varsity sports programs in an effort to comply with Title IX regulations, the Sept. 30 edition of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. The cuts, effective July 1 of next year, will end men’s sports teams in swimming, gymnastics and both indoor and outdoor track, among others. Three women’s sports programs will also be dropped: gymnastics, archery and fencing.
