Cuts begin to take toll
Gov. Mark Warner will submit his plan for agency-specific budget reductions to the Virginia General Assembly Oct. 15. Aiming to offset the anticipated $6 million decrease in state support of the College, President Sullivan announced another round of cuts Friday.

Professor addresses U.S. action for Burmese
Forced labor, censorship and low standards of living plague Burma's population of 48 million. Such ensuing human rights issues were the focus of philosophy professor Mark Fowler's presentation to the Free Burma Coalition and the College chapter of Amnesty International last night.

Israeli students speak to campus
Three Israeli students spoke to the College community as part of the national Heart of Israel program. They stressed the importance of American students recognizing the similarities between themselves and Israeli students.

Students seek out support for parade
Due to the current budget crisis, the College's Alumni Association cancelled the annual Homecoming Parade. However, some students have been trying to rally support from private donors willing to fund the parade and continue the tradition.

Four arrests made in shooting cases
More information from the outbreak of violence that occurred in Williamsburg last week has led to the arrest of 4 individuals. Additional violence in on-campus incidents is being investigated.

Amendments explained
The Williamsburg Regional Library hosted a public forum yesterday evening to inform voters about five initiatives on the Nov. 5 ballot, including a bond referendum that, if approved by Virginia voters, will give the College over $33 million for construction and renovation projects.

SA considers resolutions on attendance, bond
At its meeting this Wednesday, the Student Assembly Senate considered two resolutions: one concerning the Senate attendance policy and the other involving Senate support for the General Obligation Bond for Higher Education, a referendum which will appear on the Virginia state ballot Nov. 5.
First amendment defended
Delivering a lecture entitled "Defending the Klan: Preserving the Constitution" last Friday, Richmond lawyer and Virginia American Civil Liberties Union board member David P. Baugh shared his experience and opinion concerning his defense of Ku Klux Klan Imperial Wizard Barry Elton Black in 1999.
