Six run for freshman class president
Candidates for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and Senate representatives have been begun campaigning. The Class of 2006 votes Sept. 24.

PETA resurrects 'got beer?' to discourage milk consumption
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has begun reusing a "got beer?" advertising campaign to discourage people from drinking milk. The ads are controversial this time as well.

Lt. Gov., students discuss bond issue
Lieutenant Governor Timothy Kaine visited the College last Friday. He spoke to the Board of Visitors and with students involved in the Students of William and Mary Political Action Committee.

New dorm planned for Barksdale
The College's Board of Visitors is considering a proposal to build a new dormitory on Barksdale Field. The dorm would replace the Dillard Complex, which would be used as athletic fields.

Williams-Sonoma, Talbots to move into CW
Talbots and Williams-Sonoma are moving into retail spaces in Colonial Williamsburg's Merchant's Square. The stores are expected to open within the next few months.

The Society of the Alumni of the College held a tree planting ceremony Sept. 14 to honor the seven alumni who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. An American Sycamore was planted on the lawn in front of the Alumni House, chosen because it can be found in all 50 states.


Reverend speaks for end of School of Americas
In an event co-sponsored by the College's chapter of Amnesty International, Fathey Roy Bourgeois came to speak on campus. He is the founder of the School of the Americas Watch, which alleges the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia, is a terrorist training camp.

SA focuses on election rules, campus news outlets
Freshman election procedures, improved student communication with the College's Board of Visitors and the development of other student news organizations to compete with The Flat Hat were the issues that dominated senate discussion at their weekly meeting Wednesday.

U.S. Army Sargeant First Class John Collett spoke at the College last night. Collett took part in the Battle of Mogadishu publicized in both a book and movie as the "Black Hawk Down" story.

The College's Board of Visitors continued meetings last Friday. The Board discussed Alumni Affairs, athletics and economic development.

Students at Syracuse University react to the idea of al Qaeda links in nearby Buffalo. Six men accused of being linked to the terrorist group were arrested earlier this week.
